bits and bobs

Now the engine is ticking over, a slight weeping water leak from a flange has kind of fixed itself, not sure how, tightened up the exhaust bolts because I hadn't compressed the gaskets enough....always a tricky and worrying job to do because of the fragile exhaust threads in the cylinder heads that I had tried to fix by tapping a thread deeper.
when i have a better camera to record the engine I will upload it because the engine noise sounds amazing. Ive even made a decibel killer......why...well with the exhaust can repacked( horrible job handling the rockwall stuff, itchy reaction even wearing gloves)....I borrowed a noise meter...a Maplins special.....so accuracy is unknown!....it read 103.6 Db at 6000rpm.......back in the 1990's that was passible but current track days allow a namby pamby 102 Db........the decibel killer dropped it a little but not enough but I just dont know...........got to test it with the scrutineers meter

my cbr in 1992 was tested at 113 Db!!!! after a race.....and they weren't happy!.....had to get that micron repacked before they let me back on the track...........those were the days!

Made an exhaust shield around the rear pipes........don't like how close the exhaust gets to my lovely Nitron shock, the heat would effect the shock performance.

electrics are done, battery is knackered, the charger's needle likes to bounce in a rythmic beat when i connect it up!......so much for the optimates effort.

tank sprayed white.........boring but never mind......cheap...and obscures any previous scratches and dents......rather get it ready for the track looking complete than make it all sparkly..............for now!

braided hosing fitted, just got to secure them( taken off cbr)...ignition switch fitted(not shown)....
brake pads front.......cant find them..........thought i bought some.

front suspension..........waiting on new springs.......

if they dont come ill just do a track day shake down.......

tyres????????????...........any suggestions?

Sunday 5 June 2011

Moving along well, rear subframe fitted, electrics seem to reach the right places, rectifier ,cdi, fuel pump. shock remote adjuster fixed with supplied plastic mount and cable ties. thermostat fitted, carbs placed over the top......tricky getting them in. Front frame attached temporarily. good day today, looking to get it running by next weekend!

Sat evening comes to a close, time to watch the TT.
Look at this, stripping the caliper i find the previous owner has put the pistons in the wrong way round!......this bike is pulling up some nasty surprises. They are damaged beyond repair because the outer edge of the bore has parts of the lip edge broken, the dust seal has actually been forced out, can see it in the picture......junk!

rise of the machine part 2

slowly building it back, just got to make sure I don't miss anything / or wrong order and find i have to take something off to fit a part...........like the rear brake caliper torque arm....which is a right per lava....

rise of the machine! part 1

seat fixings drilled and tapped, then removed to have the subframe painted.
